Song Lyrics Awards to be presented to John Prine and Kathleen Brennan & Tom Waits
Master of Ceremonies Elvis Costello, and special guests Rosanne Cash, John Mellencamp, film maker Jim Jarmusch, author Colum McCann, singer-songwriter Sturgill Simpson, musician Peter Wolf and others will celebrate the Song Lyrics of Literary Excellence honorees John Prine and Kathleen Brennan & Tom Waits. This program is presented in collaboration with PEN New England.
The Song Lyrics of Literary Excellence were established by PEN New England in 2012. Honorees are chosen bi-annually by a committee that includes Bono, Rosanne Cash, Elvis Costello, Bill Flanagan, Paul Muldoon, Salman Rushdie, Natasha Trethewey and Peter Wolf. The first awards were given to Chuck Berry and Leonard Cohen. The 2014 awards went to Kris Kristofferson and Randy Newman.
