Folder Description
This folder contains a report by Chester Bowles, President John F. Kennedy’s Special Representative for Asian, African, and Latin American Affairs, detailing his mission to Africa to assess political and economic climates, meet with leaders, and evaluate United States operations and policies in the countries visited, including Congo, Nigeria, and Liberia. Also included in this folder is a draft of a speech given by Bowles at a dinner of the Phelps-Stoke Fund in New York City titled, “A Close Look at Africa,” discussing the history of colonization, economy, relations with the U.S., and the present development and future prospects of the continent.
