U.S. Student in Scotland Ruby McIntee Wins the John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Essay Contest
The John F. Kennedy Library Foundation today announced that Ruby McIntee, a U.S. Citizen and senior at the High School of Dundee in Dundee Scotland, has won the national John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Essay Contest for High School Students. The winning essay describes how former U.S. Representative Vito Marcantonio (New York 18th District) courageously opposed the 1948 Subversive Activities Control Act which required communists to register with the U.S. Attorney General. Determined to protect constitutionally guaranteed freedoms, Marcantonio risked his career and reputation to stay true to democratic principles.
