Sixty years ago, Senator John F. Kennedy campaigned for President against Vice President Richard M. Nixon. The 1960 election was one of the closest in the modern era.

To commemorate the anniversary, we are announcing the launch of a special podcast series, 60/20: The Election of 1960 and Its Echoes Today. The series will cover the 1960 campaign from the primaries through Election Night, highlighting key moments and lesser-known stories in the race leading up to the final vote.

The first three episodes will look at how JFK’s team pioneered a new approach to the nomination process, how the Kennedy campaign unified the Democratic Party after the Convention, and how JFK and his team worked to win over Black voters who were skeptical of his commitment to civil rights.

Other episodes will cover the battle between the Kennedy and Nixon campaigns, the first live televised presidential debates, and the existential threat from the Soviet Union on the United States.

The eight episodes will air between August 13 and Election Day, and the series will be available on Apple PodcastsSpotifyStitcher, and most other places you find podcasts.
