Season 4, Episode 2: JFK, Sargent Shriver, and the Peace Corps

April 29, 2020

About This Episode

In President Kennedy’s first days in office, he asked his brother-in-law Sargent Shriver to create an organization that would – over the next 50 plus years – send almost 250,000 Americans across more than 140 countries to help develop sustainable solutions to the world’s most pressing challenges. The organization would be called the Peace Corps, and was a key part of President Kennedy’s plan to spread American goodwill across the world.

In this episode, we’ll talk about President Kennedy and the man he trusted to build the Peace Corps, his brother-in-law Sargent Shriver. Our guests will include Dr. Jamie Price, executive director of the Sargent Shriver Peace Institute, and we’ll also speak with Massachusetts Congressman Joe Kennedy III, President Kennedy’s great-nephew and an alumni of the Peace Corps.
